Heeding a Warning by Valentina Cano

Spring/Summer 2015

Heeding a Warning

Your voice wraps around me.

It brings to mind

the fog stained with fire,

the smell of ashes.

I run my fingers through the sound,

weaving it into knots

that will make you stumble on the words.

Make it hard to swallow.

Allow you to hear

the crackling of the driest leaves

as they catch flame.
